Pure Air, Sunlight, Abstemiousness, Rest, Exercise, Diet, Water, Trust in Divine Power these are the true remedies. (Ministry of Healing pg127)

True temperance teaches us to dispense entirely with everything hurtful and to use judiciously that which is healthful.

To preserve health, temperance in all things is necessary--temperance in labour, temperance in eating and drinking. Counsels on Health pg121

And every man that strives for the mastery is temperate in all things…. cast away. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible; crown; but we an incorruptible. 1 Corinthians 9:25

Abstemiousness

Allow God to work with us to overcome foods to which we may be addicted.

Food addiction can cause overeating and being overweight.  It also decreases the immune system, thus opening the door for disease.

There are few who realize as they should how much their habits of diet have to do with their health, their character, their usefulness in this world, and their eternal destiny. The appetite should ever be in subjection to the moral and intellectual powers. The body should be servant to the mind, and not the mind to the body.  Patriarchs and Prophets pg 562

Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. Corinthians 10:31

When thou sit to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee: And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite.  Proverbs 23:1-2

It is possible to eat immoderately even with wholesome food. Counsels on Health pg 119.1

All the labour of man is for his mouth, and yet the appetite is not filled. Ecclesiastes 6:7

The controlling power of appetite will prove the ruin of thousands, when, if they had conquered on this point, they would have had moral power to gain the victory over every other temptation of Satan. But those who are slaves to appetite will fail in perfecting Christian character.  Counsels on Diet and Foods pg 163
